What are great and to a fantastic story both my son and I really enjoyed this trilogy. Can't wait to see what this author produces next. Thank you for all the entertainment
Oh, wow, wow, wow! What an amazing finale to the trilogy and events in the first two books! After managing to lift the curse on his family, Joe soon finds himself travelling to the past to see what he can do to fix the slow merging of the past and present and save the Alone Child. But while asking for help from one of his friends, things take a dark turn and soon Joe and his friends must help prevent something terrible happening as time starts to collapse.
Fantastic end to the trilogy! 3 generations (10-76 years old) have all enjoyed reading them.
Having eagerly awaited The Crystal Palace Chronicles finale, 'Palace of Flames' did not disappoint. 'Palace of Shadows' ended with the cliffhanger of The Alone Child's identity and Graham Whitlock makes the reader wait four chapters before revealing this in Book III. However, the identity of The Alone Child becomes almost irrelevant because 'Palace of Flames' is packed full of surprises with thrilling twists and turns. Joe and the squad seem to jump from one calamity to another! I was delighted to find characters from the previous two books make a return in Book III. These include Dr Arthur Conan Doyle, W. G. Grace, Adam Worth, Iris Blondin, Lilly Langtree, and Ira Aldridge. New characters from Crystal Palace past are introduced in 'Palace of Flames': Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins, the creator of the Crystal Palace Dinosaurs, the social reformer Annie Besant, and composer August Manns. As well as Joe travelling back to 1888, he and the squad time-travel to November 30th 1936 - the night the Crystal Palace burned down. It is here that they meet, 'The Father of Television', John Logie Baird. As with the previous books, Graham Whitlock includes at the end a useful guide to the real life characters mentioned in the story. 'Palace of Flames' is both educational and entertaining. I would recommend the whole of The Crystal Palace Chronicles to anyone who enjoys a good story. For those interested in the Crystal Palace, you will find a wealth of information in Graham Whitlock's stories - much more fun than than reading a pile of reference books! A must read for young adults and not so young adults!
