Love reading what my ancestor gets up to when younger I love all the books by Graham Whitlock
An enjoyable read full of adventure for children and adults alike!
Love following a young HG Wells on an adventure around the Crystal Palace and surrounding areas.
Another beautifully written novel for the young at heart that really brings alive the famous 19th century Crystal Palace and its surrounding area. There is abundant evidence of how thoroughly the author has researched the area and its famous residents, really making you feel as if you were exploring this magnificent building and its amazing exhibits with Bertie and his friends on their adventures. A real labour of love delivered with a light, fun touch. Through the eyes of a young H.G.Wells important themes such as friendship, family, trust, bullying, the futility of vengeance, poverty, ambition, redemption are explored in a sensitive yet entertaining manner. The dialogues feel lively, fresh and authentic because all the characters have been carefully invested with their own voice and I really enjoyed the linguistic playfulness of Bertie's observations, so suitable for the budding writer, and also young readers. A fun, uplifting novel with its heart in the right place.
A fun adventure with lots of twists and strong characters- Bertie is hilarious! A mix of history, mystery and suspense, recommended for anyone who would enjoy Harry Potter with a splash of Famous Five.
